The Story Behind Angel
Angel by Sarah McLachlan first appeared on her Surfacing album, which was released in 1997. The song was inspired by Jonathan Melvoin, the Smashing Pumpkins' keyboard player. Melvoin died of a heroin overdose in 1996.
Sarah McLachlan has said that it only took her a few hours to write the song.
