Archangel Jophiel

Archangel Jophiel appears in Jewish and Christian lore. Jophiel

also appears in cabalistic tradition and works of literature.

To students of the Ascended Master teachings, he is the angelic director of the Yellow Ray of Illumination.

His divine complement (or archeia) is known as Constance (in some circles she’s also known as Christine).

In Hebrew, Jophiel means "the Beauty of God".

Jewish Lore

In Jewish tradition, Jophiel is known as a companion to Metatron, a powerful angel believed to be one of the highest of angels. Jophiel is also believed to be a chief of the cherubim, one of the nine angel choirs.

Some sources say that he may also be the angel of the Torah who taught Moses the cabalistic mystery.

Jophiel is also known by other names, including: Iophiel, Iofiel, Jofiel, Yofiel ("Divine Beauty"), and Zophiel ("God is my Rock").

Jophiel in Christian Tradition

Unlike Archangel Michael, Jophiel is not so well known among Christians. You will find very few references of this archangel in official Christian documents.

Indeed, Archangel Jophiel is not mentioned in the Bible. But according to Christian lore, he is the angel who expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Jophiel is also believed to be the guardian of the Tree of Knowledge from which Eve took the infamous apple.

Another mention of Jophiel is found in the writings of medieval Christian theologian Pseudo-Dionysius. He lists Jophiel as one of the seven archangels who stand before God.

Angel of Beauty, Illumination and Wisdom

Archangel JophielAs I mentioned before, Archangel Jophiel and Archeia Constance are the angelic directors of the Second Ray of Illumination (also known as the Yellow Ray). In that capacity, they are in charge of bringing divine wisdom and understanding to humankind. They also help us expand our knowledge and express our creativity.

Some people refer to Jophiel as the Angel of Beauty since his name means "beauty of God". Others call him the Angel of Illumination and Wisdom.

It is important to note that in Judeo-Christian tradition, Jophiel has been closely associated with knowledge and wisdom. As I previously mentioned, he is known as the guardian of the Tree of Knowledge. And he's also believed to be the angel who taught Moses.

Jophiel also works to eradicate ignorance, intellectual pride and intolerance on a global scale. However, you can also ask him to help you eliminate these negative aspects from your own personal life. This powerful archangel helps humankind on both the cosmic and the individual levels.

Another important task of Jophiel is the training of all the angels. Obviously, he is also responsible for training the angels that work under the Yellow Ray.

Archangel Jophiel and your Personal Growth

Jophiel and his angels can help you learn faster, make better decisions, and access the divine wisdom that is available to all of us. Jophiel can also help you absorb knowledge more easily. Ask him to help you improve, expand, and develop your:

  • Creativity
  • Intelligence
  • Discerning ability
  • Undestanding

Pray to Jophiel for help with learning, school homework and exams. If you have children, ask him and his angels to help them grow in wisdom.

A Prayer to Jophiel

Beloved Jophiel,
Open my mind and heart
To receive the Divine Wisdom
and the Divine Ideas
That come from God.

Help me develop my unique talents and abilities,
So that I may share them with the world.

Assist me in understanding
The world around me,
And help me obtain the knowledge that I need,
To grow both intellectually and spiritually.
Thank you.

Jophiel in Literature

Jophiel makes an appearance in John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost. In it, Milton describes him as "of cherubim the swiftest wing" (Paradise Lost VI, 535).
