Bible Angels

Bible angels are divine messengers, law givers, protectors, guides, and the executors of God’s will. They bring peace, love and inspiration. The angels of the Bible are powerful, but they also the embodiment of compassion and wisdom. And they are the heavenly protagonists of some of the most wonderful stories ever told.

The angel Bible verses that are presented here are some of my favorites. They never fail to fill me with awe and a sense of magic. As you read them, meditate upon them and ask Go to fill your heart and mind with understanding.

Angels of the Bible - The Old Testament

The following verses about Bible angels give us a glimpse of their heavenly work among the prophets and ordinary people.

And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. ~ Judges 2:4

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. ~ 1 Kings 19:5

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. ~ Isaiah 63:9

Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. ~ Zechariah 5:5

Biblical Angels – The New Testament

The following passages about Bible angels are some of my favorites. As you can glean from these stories, angels played an important role in the life of Jesus. They were by his side before, during and after his life on this Earth.

The Announcement of the Birth of Jesus

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. ~ Luke 1:29-33

Angels Tell the Shepherds Where to Find baby Jesus

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. ~ Luke 2:8-15

The Angel at Jesus’ Sepulchre

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ~ John 20:11-15

The Ascencion of Jesus

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. ~ Acts 1:9-11
